About Me

Hi, I’m Alex Lowkey 👋, a professor of artificial intelligence at the Unknow AI Lab. I lead the Robotic Neurobiology group, where we build robots that reconfigure themselves, swarms of small machines that organize without a leader, and sensor networks that move around on their own.

What I work on

  • Distributed robotics: many simple robots working together on a task none of them could finish alone.
  • Mobile computing: software that keeps working when the network, the battery, or the hardware does not.
  • Programmable matter: materials that change shape or behaviour on command.

What I write about

This blog is where I think out loud. Expect three kinds of posts:

  1. Notes from the lab: what we tried, what broke, and what we learned from it.
  2. Explainers: research topics written for curious people who do not read papers for fun.
  3. Tools: the editors, scripts and workflows that keep my day running, including how this site is built with Hugo and the Lowkey theme.

Say hello

The fastest way to reach me is through any of the links in the footer. I read every message, even if the reply takes a while.
